An exciting position has become available for an experienced Gate Maker / Bench Joiner based in Alresford, who is well-organised and self-motivated.

The successful candidate will earn from £36,400 – £39,000 if employed or £48,412 – £51,870 on a self-employed basis (depending on experience), plus bonus available.

Hours of work are 7.30 am – 4 pm Monday to Friday.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate high-quality workmanship and have a keen eye for detail. The job will involve the production of high-quality bespoke gates for our team to install around Hampshire and surrounding counties.

You will work alone but as part of a friendly team in a growing family business. Good interpersonal skills are sought as you could be liaising with customers should they visit the workshop to discuss requirements. Depending on the workload, you need to be willing to help out other roles at times, so you must be flexible wherever possible.

 

Start date

Our current gate maker is retiring and we would ideally like an overlap, to handover the reigns.

Role Responsibilities

  • Producing bespoke driveway and pedestrian gates, along with other bespoke woodwork items as required.
  • Customer face-to-face interactions offering advice and solutions to gate queries.
  • Managing personal stock levels and specialist tool or part ordering with the office.
  • To work in a safe, tidy, and efficient manner (and have a good understanding of health and safety requirements relevant to this industry).

Skills Required

  • You will need to have extensive carpentry, joinery or another type of woodworking experience that has seen you craft large, high-quality products
  • Ability to work alone
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Capable of working from drawings, templates and written instructions
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Excellent time management
  • Have a methodical approach to tasks
  • Be able to work to deadlines
  • Take pride in your work
  • Must have access to your own car due to a rural location
  • Capable of heavy lifting as required for materials and equipment
  • Confident in using a range of workshop machines including:
    • Spindle moulders
    • Planers
    • 4 sided planer/moulder
    • Tenoner
    • Resaw
    • Bandsaw
    • Table saw
    • Cross cut
    • CNC
    • Sander
    • Chisel Mortiser
    • Chain Mortiser
    • Extraction system
    • Sawdust Briquette Press
    • Forklift
    • As well as other hand tools and power tools.
